Manufacturers must take a holistic approach to power management, starting with an operating system platform that is "power-aware" and contributes to minimizing the overall power consumption of a device. By employing reactive power management at the operating system level, as well as more sophisticated techniques such as proactive or predictive power management, manufactures will be able to improve the time between recharge, reduce overall BOM costs, and qualify for the highly coveted "green device" label.
