This paper focuses on the security of the data connection in a mobility application. The fundamental issue is rooted in the fact that the IP address assigned to the user device is normally based on the point of network attachment. If the user moves from a cellular network to a WiFi network, the IP address assigned to the device changes. If a user is using an IPsec-based Virtual Private Network (VPN) to secure his data connection to the corporate network, changing IP addresses will cause the VPN to terminate, resulting in loss of connectivity. In this paper, we will look at how a typical VPN works, what happens in a mobility environment, and how to apply advanced technology solutions to keep the VPN alive.
