Overview:
LTE-Advanced, standardized in 3GPP Release 10, will enhance LTE into a true 4G mobile communications technology while meeting the IMT-Advanced requirements in terms of peak data rate and spectral efficiency. Carrier aggregation is the most demanded feature of the LTE-Advanced feature set because it will allow network operators worldwide to aggregate their different spectrum holdings. In the third part of the Rohde & Schwarz webinar series on LTE UE RF measurements, we will discuss the details of carrier aggregation, its different types and its impact on how to test a device that supports carrier aggregation. Emphasis will be on receiver testing using the R&S®CMW500 wideband radio communication tester.

Attendees will learn:

  • Fundamentals of carrier aggregation as part of the LTE-Advanced (3GPP Release 10) feature set
  • How to test carrier aggregation (CA) capable LTE handsets
Prerequisites:
  • Basic understanding of mobile communications standards
  • Basic knowledge of LTE 3GPP Release 8 principles
Who should attend:
  • Engineering and lab managers
  • Research and principal engineers
  • RF and transceiver design engineers
  • Software and protocol development engineers
  • Network and systems & test engineers
  • Application and support engineers
Presenters:
Andreas Roessler, Technology Manager, Test & Measurement Division, Rohde & Schwarz, North America
Andreas Roessler is technology manager for North America at Rohde & Schwarz, Inc. with focus on LTE/LTE-Advanced. His responsibilities include strategic marketing and product portfolio development regarding LTE/LTE-Advanced. He joined Rohde & Schwarz in 2008. Prior to this he worked as product manager at Willtek Communications. He has more than 9 years of experience in the mobile industry and in wireless technologies. He graduated from Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg, Germany, and holds a master degree in communication engineering.

Günter Pfeifer, Product Manager, Test & Measurement Division, Rohde & Schwarz, Munich
Günter Pfeifer joined Rohde & Schwarz in Munich in 1997. He has spent most of his time at the company working as a product manager for mobile communications systems. For roughly the last 15 years, he has been responsible for test solutions such as the R&S®CMU200 and R&S®CMW500, focusing on 3GPP-related technologies ranging from GSM/GPRS and EDGE to WCDMA and HSDPA/HSUPA. For about the last five years, he has been in charge of LTE (FDD/TDD) and LTE-Advanced integration in the R&S®CMW500. Günter holds a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Kempten, Germany, and wrote his thesis at the Helsinki University of Technology.
