The shift towards digital storage of audio presents several challenges and opportunities for audio system designers. Playback via the phone or laptop on which the music is stored compromises quality. As a result a huge market has been created for wireless speakers; but these must be portable, high quality, and affordable. The traditional speaker design, with a woofer and tweeter, is impractical and requires significant expertise to manage the crossover, significantly adding to both design and component cost. There is, however, an alternative and this paper examines how advances in speaker technology can deliver small, attractive, full-frequency-range audio units at a consumer price point.
HiWave designs, manufactures and sells electronic components and sub-assemblies that enable sound and touch capabilities to be added to consumer, retail and industrial products.
