At the heart of 3D graphics lies the 3D model. If 3D graphics were a Broadway play, then the 3D models are the actors. In a play everything in the theater—the lighting, backdrops, costumes, seats and stage—exists to support the actors. So it is with 3D graphics. Everything to do with 3D graphics—the lighting, scene graphs, surface management and cameras—exists solely to support the 3D model. A 3D scene is judged by the quality of its 3D models. This paper describes the process of creating 3D models and discusses tips and techniques for creating high quality models suitable for use in embedded applications.

Well worth a read! Some "thought triggers" here and in these lie the start of innovation.
