Tilera's new generation of processors are suited for the demands of Web 2.0 servers involved in "cloud computing". Tilera's processors are designed to handle multiple independent tasks, launching and dispatching them promptly before moving on to the next task. The processors have no need for software compatibility with the x86's 1970s-era internal architecture of the PC. This paper describes using a head-to-head test between an Intel Xeon-based server and a Tilera-based server made by Quanta Computer. The test was performed by a well-known social networking service.
Tilera is a fabless semiconductor company specializing in scalable multicore embedded processor design. Its products lude multicore processors, multicore software development tools, and high performance boards.
