Embedded devices are present in all aspects of the data flow and are the fundamental building blocks of all data transfer. They are deployed in the field to write, analyze, transmit, and receive data. They are deployed on the factory floor to operate, analyze and control critical manufacturing processes. They are deployed in hospitals to monitor, manage and safe-guard patient care.

Unfortunately, most storage solutions on the market are not built for embedded devices. There is no way to guarantee that your data is reliably stored. It's not an intractable problem, but rather a holdover from the days when data was stored primarily on a desktop. This paper discusses this problem and the solution: making data completely recoverable after any unexpected event and incorporating such data reliability into all stages of the project, especially the early design phase and testing.
