The Dallas Semiconductor 1-wire bus represents one of the lowest-cost networks ever conceived. It is ideal for security, automation, and many industrial contract applications. The 1-wire bus allows devices to be distributed though hundreds of feet of cable with scores of individual nodes. This paper introduces the 1-wire bus and gives practical working examples.
