Reliability requirements for ICs have forced designers to change their “design guidelines” into a “signoff-requirement” for today’s climate of first silicon success and time-to-market. IC designers are changing their approach to chip design by including simulation of failure mechanisms that affect the reliability of the IC and the systems they serve. A comprehensive reliability analysis platform that performs multi-physics simulations and analyzes the ICs within the context of the larger sub-system is necessary. In this Educast, we will classify and discuss the various reliability phenomena that affect the design of advanced ICs and electronic sub-systems. We will also discuss the various technology drivers and multi-physics simulation requirements for IC reliability analysis.
